Pipe uses EPDs as a criteria for selection within its
breeding program.

| We
have routinely used ultrasound evaluation of live animals to
estimate carcass parameters (REA, marbling and backfat), to
be able to gain carcass estimates on all animals in the herd.
The proof of the value of ultrasound is seen when comparing
ultrasound estimated values with actual carcass measurements
on the same animals. The strong correlation, patricularly for
REA, confirms that ultrasound data is extremely important in
our selection scheme. |
